Retail Investors Pull Funds from KOSDAQ ETFs Amid Waning Appeal
Recently, retail investors have been withdrawing funds from KOSDAQ-listed ETFs, marking a notable trend in South Korea's equity markets. Outflows have been particularly persistent in major ETFs such as the 'KODEX KOSDAQ150' and 'TIGER KOSDAQ150,' with net selling continuing for over 20 consecutive trading sessions. This trend suggests a weakening investment allure for KOSDAQ, partly due to the lackluster performance of its constituent stocks and dampened sentiment around the pharmaceuticals and biotech sectors.
In contrast, KOSPI large-cap stocks have outperformed, prompting investors to realize gains from KOSDAQ and reallocate capital. The government is actively considering policy measures such as launching a national growth fund and introducing promotion/relegation rules to boost KOSDAQ market vitality. It remains to be seen whether these efforts will successfully reinvigorate retail investor interest and support a recovery in KOSDAQ.
