Samsung Asset Management Launches First Target Covered Call ETF in Korea

Samsung Asset Management has launched the 'KODEX 200 Target Weekly Covered Call ETF', marking its entry into the competitive covered call ETF market. This ETF is based on the KRX KOSPI 200 index and aims for an annual option premium income of 15%. Notably, it offers tax-free benefits on capital gains and provides stable dividend income, projecting an annual distribution rate of about 17% through monthly payouts of 1.4%.
The ETF distinguishes itself as Korea's first target covered call ETF. By selling KOSPI 200 weekly options, it seeks alpha returns, making it an attractive option for investors looking to lower the tax burden on dividend income. The strategy, targeting a 15% annual return, selectively sells call options to partially capture gains from the underlying asset's appreciation.
Moreover, with its monthly dividend format and tax-free characteristics, this ETF is particularly suitable for investors seeking a stable cash flow. Samsung Asset Management is expected to meet diverse investor demands and strengthen its competitiveness in the covered call ETF market with these product features. This new offering is particularly appealing to investors targeting both dividends and option premium gains.
