Korean ETF Market Sees Surge in Semiconductor and Quantum Computing ETFs
This week, the Korean ETF market was notably led by strong performances in the semiconductor and quantum computing sectors. The 'SOL Semiconductor Front-End Process' ETF from Shinhan Asset Management soared over 17%, largely attributable to robust earnings from Nvidia in the US, which fueled optimism for related local funds. Quantum computing ETFs, such as Samsung Active Asset Management's 'KoAct Global Quantum Computing Active,' also posted impressive returns above 14%, highlighting a growing investor preference for thematic ETFs. Retirement pension investors have increasingly allocated capital to hybrid bond ETFs that include Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, reflecting ongoing confidence in AI and semiconductor industries. The 'RISE Samsung Electronics-SK Hynix Hybrid 50' ETF saw the highest net purchases, followed closely by 'KODEX Samsung Electronics-SK Hynix Hybrid 50.' Interest in US equities ETFs also continued to rise among individual long-term accounts. On the 22nd, the KOSDAQ index jumped nearly 5%, propelling quantum computer and growth-oriented thematic ETFs to the top of the performance rankings. There was a marked inflow of assets into leveraged ETFs, while inverse and some overseas thematic ETFs underperformed during the same period. Additionally, on the 27th, 18 new leveraged and inverse ETFs and ETNs focused on Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix began trading, designed to track double the returns of spot and futures performance. These new high-volatility products are expected to further strengthen the semiconductor-centric trend in the domestic ETF market.
