Disruptions in ETF Trading Due to Korea Exchange System Malfunction
A technical malfunction at the Korea Exchange resulted in delays and refusals in the trading of several exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The financial investment industry speculated that the surge in trading volumes might have stressed the system, as similar issues have occurred in the past. This incident adds to the recent spate of technical disruptions reported across the securities industry. Notably, trading of the crude oil futures ETF, KODEX WTI Crude Oil Futures (H), was halted for approximately two and a half hours due to a data discrepancy error that delayed the ETP trading system. The exchange announced that trading resumed at 3 PM and affirmed that stock trading was unaffected. Furthermore, the exchange committed to making every effort to prevent recurrence of such issues.
