AI and Memory Semiconductor ETFs See Record Growth and Outstanding Returns
Korean AI and memory semiconductor exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are attracting significant investor interest, posting record-breaking assets and returns. NH-Amundi Asset Management’s 'HANARO Fn K-Semiconductor ETF', investing in 20 domestic semiconductor stocks including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, has surpassed 3 trillion KRW in net assets. By maintaining high weights in industry leaders such as Samsung Electro-Mechanics, this ETF has delivered stellar returns of 178.19% year-to-date, with 6-month and 1-year performance at 197.63% and 504.19% respectively. The expansion of AI infrastructure and growing demand for memory semiconductors continue to drive strong results.
Meanwhile, Korea Investment Trust Management's 'ACE AI Semiconductor TOP3+ ETF' has also grown rapidly, with assets exceeding 1 trillion KRW. This ETF focuses 75% of its assets on HBM (high-bandwidth memory) leaders like SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Hanmi Semiconductor, achieving superior returns—206.11% over six months and 471.10% over one year—and a 703% growth in assets this year. These ETFs are credited for effective long-term performance and risk management by combining leader-focused and active strategies.
Internationally, US investors have allocated $9 billion in just six weeks to the DRAM ETF, which includes Korean memory giants, pushing it past the ARK Innovation ETF in asset size. While these ETFs promise high returns, caution is warranted as they also carry the risk of principal loss inherent to their structure.
