KOSPI Market Rebound and Divergent Investor Strategies
KOSPI Market Rebound and Divergent Investor Strategies
Recently, the KOSPI index experienced fluctuations and managed to rebound, yet individual investors recorded poor returns from their ETF investments betting on index gains. On the contrary, foreign investors gained significantly from investing in ETFs that bet on declines, highlighting the stark contrast in investment strategies between domestic individuals and foreign entities. Foreign investors, in particular, showed strong selling trends in semiconductor giants SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, while redirecting their investments to ETFs related to China and the United States. Despite KOSPI’s recent surge beyond 4,000 points, covered call ETF investors face limited profits. The covered call strategy involves holding stocks and selling call options for stable returns; however, it limits profits when stock prices soar. To address this drawback, tailored covered call ETFs are designed to partially capitalize on stock price increases, making them advantageous for long-term investment in indices like KOSPI 200 or S&P 500.
