Trends in Retirement Pension and US Long-term Treasury Bond ETF Markets
The domestic retirement pension market, now exceeding 500 trillion KRW, is seeing a growing importance of ETFs. Investors are particularly focused on bond-mixed ETFs that can capture both stock investment returns and satisfy the '30% safe asset' regulatory requirements. These funds maintain over 50% allocation to bonds, and recent product launches span a diverse set of assets including KOSDAQ, precious metals, and real estate REITs.
Meanwhile, in the US, long-term government bond yields have surged to their highest levels in 19 years, prompting individual investors to sell off bond ETFs despite incurring losses. Key factors behind the rise in yields include the spike in global oil prices, inflation concerns, and escalating US fiscal deficits. From January 2 to May 22 this year, there have been significant outflows from US long-term bond ETFs such as 'TIGER US 30-Year Treasury Covered Call Active (H)' and other North American bond funds. These developments underscore the importance of monitoring global interest rate shifts and adapting asset allocation strategies accordingly.
