Korean Semiconductor ETF Market: Surge in Investor Interest and Product Diversification
As the Korean semiconductor industry enters a 'super cycle', investor attention toward semiconductor-themed ETFs has intensified. Mirae Asset's 'TIGER Semiconductor TOP10 ETF' has attracted over 2 trillion KRW in net retail inflows since the beginning of the year, propelling its total assets to 8.8 trillion KRW and establishing it as one of the largest equity thematic ETFs in Korea. This ETF primarily invests in domestic memory semiconductor giants such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix and benefits from strong demand for AI-driven services, which are driving rapid memory chip price increases. Furthermore, the leveraged version, 'TIGER Semiconductor TOP10 Leverage ETF', is seeing robust demand from investors seeking higher short-term returns. In parallel, Samsung Asset Management is launching the 'KODEX Samsung Electronics SK Hynix Bond Mix 50' ETF, aiming to capture both the growth of the semiconductor sector and the stability of bonds. The ETF allocates 50% to stocks (Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix) and 50% to bonds, thus balancing exposure to leading semiconductor names while mitigating market volatility. It is fully eligible for Individual Savings Accounts (ISA) and retirement pension plans, catering to both retail and long-term investors. The debut of such innovative products reflects a new phase in Korea’s ETF market, marked by thematic diversity and strategic evolution.
