Samsung Electronics & SK hynix 2x Leverage ETF Launch and Shifting Investment Trends
A leveraged ETF designed to track daily returns of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix at twice the rate is slated for launch at the end of this month. According to Mirae Asset Securities, a significant migration of existing investors in these two stocks to the new ETF is expected, while meaningful new capital inflows are also anticipated. The debut of this ETF may result in a partial outflow of funds from current semiconductor ETFs and related stocks, reflecting changing market dynamics. The move follows a cabinet approval of amendments to the Capital Markets Act allowing single-stock leveraged ETFs, with major asset managers such as Samsung and Mirae Asset preparing to launch related products. NH-Amundi's latest monthly report spotlights the intensifying US-China rivalry over AI technologies and underlines the strategic importance of national AI value chains. Strong earnings by Korean semiconductor firms like Samsung and SK hynix were highlighted, with NH-Amundi suggesting strategic asset allocation through products like HANARO Fn K-Semiconductor and HANARO Global Physical AI Active. Investment patterns are also evolving across generations, with younger investors increasingly allocating to diversified U.S. index ETFs for long-term growth, while older investors (in their 50s–70s) continue to favor large-cap domestic shipbuilding and energy stocks. Global software equities are rebounding due to diminished fears of AI displacement and attractive valuations. Meanwhile, SK hynix is reportedly receiving investment offers from global big tech firms due to a memory supply shortage, but maintains a cautious stance.
