Korea's ETF Market Surpasses 1,000 Listings, Showcasing Rapid Growth

The South Korean Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) market is experiencing significant growth, with the number of listed ETFs reaching 1,002. This marks a 15% increase from the previous year, while the total net assets rose by 42% to reach approximately 221 trillion KRW. This surge reflects a considerable rise in investor interest in ETFs across the market.
Particularly, thematic, parking, and active ETFs are capturing the attention of investors. More complex strategies, such as covered-call ETFs, are emerging beyond simple index tracking, attracting investor attention. According to the Korea Exchange, 40% of newly listed ETFs focus on thematic investments concentrated on future industries.
Moreover, parking ETFs are gaining prominence as a promising alternative investment to interest-bearing options. This momentum is not only due to ETFs being cost-effective and easy to trade but also drives fierce competition among asset management companies. This competition has led to fee reductions and highlights the growing importance of pioneering 'killer products' in the market.
