AI and Power Infrastructure ETFs Outperform; Biotech and Defense ETFs Lag

In April, theme-based ETFs focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and power infrastructure posted outstanding returns in the Korean market. The announcement of Boston Dynamics' planned Nasdaq listing acted as a major catalyst, driving up humanoid-robot-related ETFs, while cybersecurity themes also ranked among top performers. Most of the capital inflow concentrated on the KODEX AI Power Infrastructure ETF, reflecting growing investor interest in emerging high-tech sectors.
On the other hand, ETFs connected to the biotech and healthcare sectors underperformed, largely due to a sharp decline in the stock price of major domestic biotech firm Samchundang Pharm. ETFs linked to US 30-year Treasury bonds also delivered lackluster results. Furthermore, shipbuilding and defense-related ETFs, especially their leveraged variants, were among the worst performers. The KODEX Leverage ETF saw significant capital outflows, underscoring a clear divergence in sector performance across the ETF market.
