Rising Popularity of Chinese Tech Stock ETFs
ETFs investing in Chinese technology stocks are gaining popularity in South Korea. Hana Asset Management plans to list the '1Q Xiaomi Value Chain Active' ETF, which invests in leading Chinese tech companies such as Xiaomi, on the Korean stock exchange. This has attracted significant interest from investors. This year saw a surge in the listing of China-related ETFs, with 11 new listings, and consequently, a large influx of investment funds. The positive trend in the Chinese stock market has significantly boosted the returns of ETFs tracking the STAR Market 50 Index, which focuses on Chinese technology stocks. This is driven by high expectations for next-generation industries like artificial intelligence and increased trading activities, bolstered by China's policy support aimed at securing technological sovereignty. However, steel and copper-related products have experienced significant price declines due to the 50% tariff fallout from the Trump administration.
