Analysis of KOSDAQ and Active ETF Listings and Market Trends
The domestic ETF market is experiencing an influx of new listings, especially among KOSDAQ and actively managed ETFs. Eight new ETFs, launched by asset managers such as IBK Asset Management and Shinhan Asset Management, are entering the market, with Midas Asset Management introducing an active fund targeting outperformance over the KOSDAQ index. Samsung Active Asset Management is also preparing the listing of portfolios such as the 'KoAct KOSPI Active' ETF and the 'TIME Global Humanoid Robot Industry Active' ETF. Despite the expansion in the KOSDAQ active ETF market, recent stock trends remain focused on large cap KOSPI stocks, limiting the performance of both KOSDAQ and its related ETFs. With individual investor outflows and weakened sentiment towards small and mid-cap growth stocks, the government’s forthcoming KOSDAQ revitalization policies are anticipated to help the market recover in the second half of the year. Samsung Active Asset Management's forthcoming 'KoAct KOSPI Active' ETF applies an active management strategy centered on the KOSPI, targeting sectors that drive profit growth such as semiconductors, shipbuilding, machinery, defense, energy, and securities. The product also incorporates global industrial changes, such as supply chain realignment following Middle East tensions, into its selection process. With the KOSPI considered undervalued compared to major global markets, actively managed ETFs could provide a unique avenue for outperformance amid Korea’s divergent market environment.
