Korea ETF Market Sees Strong Gains in Space, AI, and Robotics; Eight New ETFs Listed
This week, the Korean ETF market witnessed significant volatility and investor interest in space, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics themes. The 'TIGER US Space Tech' ETF from Mirae Asset Global Investments posted leading weekly returns between 39.65% and 41.51%, buoyed by anticipation over a potential SpaceX IPO and robust earnings from Rocket Lab. Overall, ETFs related to the space industry outperformed, reflecting improved investor sentiment in the sector.
Within AI, there has been a notable shift from training-centric to inference-centric applications, drawing attention to ETFs focused on ASIC (application-specific integrated circuits). The 'ACE Global AI Custom Semiconductor ETF' stood out by targeting key ASIC ecosystem players and offering a differentiated portfolio from large-cap general semiconductor stocks, positioning itself for long-term growth opportunities.
Robotics ETFs also attracted considerable capital, with total net assets in Korea's major robotics ETFs reaching approximately 3.92 trillion KRW amid expectations for the commercialization of humanoid robots. Investor demand is rising for funds with global exposure, such as those featuring Tesla, Hyundai Motor, and Murata Manufacturing.
Meanwhile, the Korea Exchange announced the listing of eight new ETF products from seven asset management firms, increasing the total number of KOSPI-listed ETFs to 1,115. The range of newly listed ETFs spans KOSDAQ and KOSPI-based indices, global humanoid robotics, and fixed-income products, enhancing market diversity.
