Solar & ESS ETF Soars; Reshoring Theme ETFs Gain Attention
Hanwha Asset Management’s 'PLUS Solar & ESS' ETF has surpassed 200 billion KRW in net assets, drawing significant interest from the market. Over the past three months, it ranked first among all domestic funds and ETFs by delivering an exceptional 112% return. This stellar performance is primarily attributed to the U.S. supply chain restructuring; by imposing anti-dumping and countervailing duties, the U.S. has reduced reliance on Chinese manufacturers, benefitting domestic Korean solar companies. The ETF’s main holdings include OCI Holdings, LS ELECTRIC, and Hanwha Solutions, with additional speculation arising from potential contracts with SpaceX, highlighting possible synergies with the space industry. Meanwhile, reshoring has emerged as a key theme in the global manufacturing sector. According to Altios, reshoring is continuing not just due to tariffs, but owing to five major driving forces, including risk-adjusted costs and proximity to consumer markets. In 2024, U.S. manufacturing construction spending reached $743.8 billion, as various corporations have announced major investments in domestic production facilities. Investment products such as the iShares U.S. Manufacturing ETF (MADE) and American Reshoring ETF (RSHO) typify this trend, with both funds offering distinct takes on the reshoring concept and achieving strong returns recently.
