Bank of Korea's Foreign Assets Management Shift and Key Trends in the Retirement Pension Market

The Bank of Korea has diversified its management of foreign assets by investing over 3 trillion won in US and global Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Investments include S&P500 tracking ETFs, international stock market ETFs, and US investment-grade corporate bond ETFs, aiming to improve both the yield and asset allocation efficiency of foreign reserves. Unlike previous approaches, these investments are being made largely independently of currency fluctuations, maintaining a conservative posture while also considering diversification into gold spot ETFs. The Bank’s strategy reflects its prioritization of forex market stability and asset liquidity above all.
Separately, Kyobo Life has drawn industry attention by delivering high returns in the retirement pension sector. The firm has achieved consistent strong performance in both Defined Contribution (DC) and Individual Retirement Pension (IRP) plans; its differentiated approach leverages big data analysis, customized portfolio construction, and enhanced post-management. Meanwhile, Hanwha People Life is running an 'Insurance Clinic' that utilizes customer-tailored consultants, marking an innovative approach in its sales strategy. Shinhan Life is working to expand a culture of 'complete sales' through consumer protection events, while Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance is building brand trust through advertising that emphasizes the core value of insurance.
