Launch of Pangyo-Bundang Innovation Cluster-Based ETF Proposed
Kim Byung-wook, candidate for Seongnam mayor from the Democratic Party, has announced a key policy to launch the 'Pangyo Tech Valley Active ETF' based on innovative companies in the Pangyo and Bundang areas. This ETF will include a wide range of cutting-edge industries such as semiconductors, IT, AI, gaming, platforms, and software, aiming to disperse risks associated with specific sectors and maximize portfolio synergies. Notably, this marks Korea’s first attempt at a regionally-clustered ETF, offering investors direct access to the growth prospects of a concentrated innovation hub. As an actively managed ETF, fund managers will be able to adjust components and weightings responsively to market dynamics. Seongnam city plans to partner with asset management firms to provide quarterly updates on the local innovation ecosystem, as well as to offer corporate publicity and investor support. Furthermore, Kim outlined plans to strengthen Seongnam’s economic and social infrastructure, such as expanding transportation and public sports facilities. These measures are expected to invigorate the regional innovation ecosystem and enhance Seongnam’s presence in the capital market. The successful launch of the Pangyo Tech Valley Active ETF could serve as a significant milestone in supporting the growth of innovative companies and developing the regional capital market.
